Chiropractors are stuck in a tough spot. They went to school to be a chiropractor and help people, BUT they don’t get to actually do that unless they learn how to run a business. If you don’t know this already, THOSE ARE NOT THE SAME SKILLS!
There are some really amazing chiropractors who are terrible at running a business. On the flip side, there are some amazing business owners who don’t know a lick about being a chiropractor (hopefully the latter are running other businesses and aren’t actually chiropractors).
If you are a chiropractor and you want your practice to grow, that’s going to require that YOU grow. It would be very unusual for a practice to grow BEFORE the chiropractor grows. It doesn’t usually happen that way. Typically, you grow first and your business follows.
That may seem really obvious, but chiropractors (not just chiropractors…all small business owners) still find ways to sabotage their growth. Here are the two most common ways.
Sabotage #1.) The chiropractor understands they need to grow but they don’t take action. Maybe they are afraid to fail. Maybe they are over-analyzing (paralysis by analysis). Maybe they are addicted to learning but rarely ever apply what they learn.
There are a million reasons why chiropractors make this mistake. Regardless, if you are hoping for change without taking action, you are sabotaging your growth.
Sabotage #2.) Chiropractors take action (sometimes massive action), but it’s not purposeful action. This is the shotgun approach. It’s when a chiropractor throws anything and everything at the wall to see what sticks.
These are the chiropractors who are always trying something new. These are the chiropractors who get distracted by the next shiny thing. These are the chiropractors who sign up for any coach or courses that promises a quick fix. This is an exhausting way to run a business because energy output is high but results are low.
Final Thoughts: The solution to the problem is purposeful action. You have to first identify who you want to be and the direction you want to go, THEN you take action. Say YES to things that align with your purpose. Say NO to the things that don’t. That’s how you will grow, and if you grow…your practice will grow too.
